The Johnnie Mae Green Sisterhood Scholarship
The Johnnie Mae Green Sisterhood Scholarship is in remembrance of Sister Johnnie Mae Green. Sis. Green was born on February 9, 1935 in St. Louis, MO. She was baptized in Jesus name on January 12, 1947 and received the gift of the Holy Ghost on January 20, 1947 at Bethesda Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.
Sis. Green was one of the pillars of Bethesda Temple Church who had a pleasant personality, a quiet disposition and an easy smile. She was committed to prayer, fasting and supporting the church financially. She was steadfast and worked faithfully in the ministry of BTC. For 43 years, Sis. Green served as the first
treasurer of the Sisterhood Auxiliary.
In addition to serving as the treasurer of the Sisterhood Auxiliary, Sis. Green also faithfully served as a member of the Sisters of Temperance from its inception in September 1970 until her health began to fail. One uncommon ministry and undenounced to some, Sis. Green had a peppermint ministry. Sunday after Sunday she would give the saints that she came into contact with peppermints that she prayed over asking God that His blessings be upon all who would consume them. Sis. Green was a living example of holiness in word and deed.
As a result of her faithfulness to God, for her longevity working for Kingdom building and for her many years of support to the Sisterhood of Bethesda Temple Church, the Sisterhood has renamed the Sisterhood scholarship the “Johnnie Mae Green Sisterhood Scholarship”. This scholarship is awarded to a current high school senior, who actively attends Bethesda Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. and will be attending an institution of higher education in the Fall of same year the scholarship is awarded.
